Shared Spaces / Separate Places – No. 1

Aimee & Jena

Company member Aimee met Jena Rose Barton at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In their second year, they became close friends thanks to a classmate casting them in the same piece. They performed together every semester following and are grateful to be moving together again for this series.

“Our word was flutter, so from this word we imagined birds. This then led us to think of how birds interact on a wire in a sort of call-and-response type of way. As we watched back on the video we realized that our embodiment of call-and-response causes the audience’s eyes to flutter back and forth as well.”

Jena is the founder and facilitator of Ginkgo and Hawthorn, a project-based art and research initiative located in Philadelphia, PA. Follow @ginkgoandhawthorn for upcoming performances and projects.
