Audition: THE RED SUITCASE

Annex Dance Company seeks dancers for an upcoming performance of their evening-length work THE RED SUITCASE.

Performance: April 7th & 8th at 7:30pm at the City Gallery at Riley Waterfront Park (34 Prioleau Street, Downtown Charleston)

Audition will take place on January 29th at 2pm at Dance Moves of Charleston (349 Folly Rd, James Island). Dancers should bring a resume and be able to fill out paperwork for rehearsal availability. Studio will be open at 1:30pm to sign in, fill out paperwork, and warm-up. Audition will include an improvisation/modern technique warm-up and phrase work.

Kristin Alexander, Annex artistic director and choreographer, created THE RED SUITCASE in response to local artist Mary Walker’s collaborative traveling exhibition, also entitled The Red Suitcase, which includes work from eleven different artists from all over the country. In the spirit of the suitcase, the premiere of the piece at the 2016 Piccolo Spoleto Festival included guest performers dancing with the company. With eleven short dances representing each piece of art, dancers will be selected to learn multiple sections of choreography that will be presented as one work.

Looking for dancers with experience in modern dance technique, improvisation, and partnering. Dancers who are cast in THE RED SUITCASE will be learning existing repertory with opportunities for improvisation/creating small collaborative sections.

Possible rehearsal times (must be able to attend at least one of these weekly rehearsals):

• Mondays 8:30–9:30pm
• Wednesday 9:30–11am
• Fridays 4:30–8:30pm
• Saturdays 1–4pm (open to other times)
• Sundays 2:30–5:30pm or 5:30–8:30pm

All dancers MUST be available on Saturday March 19th – afternoon/evening and Sunday April 2nd – morning/early afternoon.

A rehearsal schedule will be planned once sections are cast and schedules are considered. Rehearsals will take place at Dance Moves of Charleston or the City Gallery.

Compensation: Dancers are able to attend free Annex Dance Company classes throughout the rehearsal process (M 7–8:30pm, W 11–12:15pm, and our Sunday Series). Dancers will also receive one comp ticket for THE RED SUITCASE.
