Meet our dance film director Maggie Bailey! Maggi Meet our dance film director Maggie Bailey!

Maggie danced with the company as an apprentice during her senior year at the College of Charleston and continued as a company member for two years before moving to pursue her MFA in Film and Media Production from the University of Texas at Austin.

She is an award-winning producer and director, working in both narrative and documentary. Her film ‘Moving Together’ recently had its World Premiere with the Dance on Camera Festival at the Film Lincoln Center in New York. The film also had its European Premiere with Cinedans Fest in Amsterdam where it won the Audience Award for Best Feature/Documentary!

February 4th at USC Aiken Etherredge Center

Starting our concert run in Aiken is special for two reasons: first, we can’t wait to share our artistic interpretation of Leslie Alexander’s artwork with her community; and second, company apprentice Taylor Bennett will be dancing with a professional company in her hometown!

As we approach our concert tour, we wanted to high As we approach our concert tour, we wanted to highlight our collaborators!

The concert is inspired by the work of Aiken-based visual artist Leslie Alexander. Throughout this concert, the connection between the two art forms inform one another and share the stage in different ways through the use of costuming, multimedia projections, and long scenic panels which are used in ‘Behind, Beyond, Between’.

Originally choreographed in 2014, ‘Glimpses & Layers’ is danced in front of moving images of Leslie’s work created by former company member Maggie Bailey.

‘Hover’ has an original commissioned musical score by Laura Ball and costume design by Janine McCabe. Laura and Janine collaborated with Kristin, Julie, and Leslie from the start of the creative process. The group of artists decided on the concept together, and all aspects of creating the piece were influenced by each collaborator’s individual process.

NY- based sound and multimedia artist John Jannone created arrangements of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons for our newest work entitled ‘Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter’. The piece will premiere in costumes designed by Janine McCabe.

The concert will feature a lighting design by Jason Lyons. A first time collaborator with the company, Julie and Kristin are thrilled to be working with him as the pieces prepare for the stages in Aiken and Charleston.
