- Meet The Company
In Richmond, VA, the company will perform a new work, Glimpses and Layers, which is inspired by work of Aiken-based visual artist Leslie Alexander, the Artistic Director’s mother-in-law. After the birth of Kristin’s son, Henry, Leslie began creating a collection of work about birth and new life, sharing process pieces along the way. “The paintings in this series were inspired by the wonder of new birth, a grandchild and a subsequent dream of a cocoon suspended by a cord from an unseen Source” says Leslie. “The use of vivid acrylic color, animated brush strokes & symbols helps me create paintings about the mysterious process of life…birth and death and rebirth.” From Leslie’s creation, Kristin choreographed the new work, which is danced by the entire company. Glimpses and Layers will be performed in projections of Leslie’s work created by company member and dance film artist, Maggie Bailey. Kristin hopes, “With the images being projected directly onto the dancers as they perform, that the audience will feel the breath and life that is apparent in Leslie’s work.”
